The permanent exhibition of the Archaeological Museum of Atalanti includes archaeological finds from the systematic and rescue excavations of the east and west Lokrida. The material represents in a chronological order all stages of civilization, such as have been established in the rest of Greece and staggered chronologically from the Neolithic to the Roman years. All objects displayed in the permanent exhibition of the Museum of Atalanti, following the cultural trends of their time, but also the preferences and needs of local groups in the region. Many of the objects in terms of themes, imagery and morphological features are unique to the character of the society that produced them.
Exhibition Units
The museum is housed in the old Atalanti Gymnasium building classified as a historical landmark. In three central halls of the building and the main hallway archaeological finds from rescue and systematic excavations of the area of eastern Lokrida and the northeastern part of ancient Fokida are being exhibited . Ancient objects chronologically cover all seasons of prehistoric and historic periods. In the hallway fitted stone objects have been placed. In their majority they are tombstones, one of which stands out the type of limestone as a bed.
